Contigo has a very special place in my heart. The first time I ever visited was my first official date with Rob! And now we go there every year for our anniversary. AND, in our “new” (-ish, as of a year ago) house we live about a mile down the road so it’s an ultra convenient stop for happy hour or dinner.
Some people consider Contigo a fancy place, and while it’s definitely special – the glowy atmosphere, expansive patio, quick & friendly service, thoughtful food, GREAT cocktail program – it’s not stuffy or over-priced, and they have an excellent happy hour, which in my opinion, does not get enough attention. It’s a great deal if you’re looking for some unique bar snacks in one of the most glorious settings in Austin.
Monday-Thursday, from 5:00-7:00, score $1 off beer or wine by the glass, $6 cocktails, and discounted bar bites. My favorites: the olives, pigs in a blanket, and ox tongue sliders! And on Wednesdays, said sliders are FREE. Thursdays you can get $1 fried chicken until it runs out.
Oh yeah, if you’ve never been to Contigo before – you should be ready to eat some meat. Not that vegetarians won’t enjoy themselves, because everything is wonderful here, but Contigo is very carnivore-friendly and that’s where they really shine.
Here’s a snapshot of what we ordered last time:
One thing you ALWAYS HAVE TO GET, even though they aren’t on HH, are the crispy green beans. They’re worth the extra $8, trust me.
And, let’s be real, if you’re enjoying happy hour there’s a high possibility you’ll end up sticking around for dinner. Last time around we were feelin’ a little extra food, so we shared the sugar snap pea salad (just look at that soft egg!) and chicken meatballs. Perfect with my glass of rosé (which I managed to snag for that sweet $1 off at the very end of HH, holler)!
Now that we’re in prime patio season, Contigo is topping my list for Austin happy hour destinations, and it should be pretty obvious why. I was skimming their summer cocktail menu and they have a frozen painkiller – the drink of the USVI! – on their rotation right now, so needless to say, I will be headed back very soon!
